Iftar Dinner Evening Program
We will begin the evening at 6:30 pm with an orientation for Shir Tikvah volunteers and dinner attendees. Rabbi Latz will share very important details and information about our role as hosts. We will have food available for all event volunteers.
At 7:30-8 pm, our guests will arrive and sit at tables in the sanctuary (with a balance of guests and hosts per table) for conversation and a short program (program at 8:15 pm).
At exactly 8:57 pm there will be a Call to Prayer and a customary Ramadan break-the-fast appetizer of three dates and a cup of water for every guest. Guests will then be ushered to the downstairs social hall for a brief Muslim prayer service (approximately 6 minutes of prayers), followed by buffet lines in the oneg hall and back to the sanctuary table for dinner.
Sara is taking the lead on the menu, which will include Halal beef and chicken as well as a variety of vegetarian dishes. Fresh fruit will be served for dessert.
We anticipate our guests will be departing by 9:45-10 pm to return either home or to the mosque for more prayer services.
To prepare yourself for this cross-cultural opportunity, please read some background materials on the holy month of Ramadan and Muslim customs.
We will require at least 3 days notice for cancellations (ASAP, really), so we can fill all seats and maintain a nice balance of guests and hosts.
