| Religious School Calendar at-a-glance Shir Tikvah values meaningful Jewish education for our children. Religious School is held on Sunday mornings during the school year, under the direction of our Director of Lifelong Learning, Rabbi Melissa Simon. The curriculum includes age-appropriate classes on Torah, holidays, life-cycle rituals, God, Israel, ethics and Tikkun Olam (repairing the world). Religious School begins with our once a month Mishpacha program for Pre-K students and their parents and continues through elementary and middle school. Students in 7th grade spend a year focusing on Social Justice. Following B'nai Mitzvah, students continue their learning in 8th and 9th grades, culminating with our 10th grade Confirmation program. Graduates of our Confirmation program, young people in 11th and 12th grades, serve as Madrichim to help teach the younger children, reflecting our belief that we can learn from each other. |
Hebrew School Calendar at-a-glance The goal of our Hebrew program is to help students develop a Hebrew "toolbox" to access the important texts of our tradition. Our Hebrew program not only prepares students for B’nai Mitzvah, but it is also serves as a foundation for a lifetime of Jewish practice and engagement. Students learn to connect with prayers and seek meaning in Jewish tradition. Hebrew classes are held on Wednesday evenings with two sessions offered to accommodate family schedules: 2011-2012 Hebrew School will meet: Session 1: 4:30-6:30 p.m. Session 2: 6:00-8:00 p.m. The sessions will overlap with an all-school t'fillah (prayer) and kehillah (community) time. This time gives students an opportunity to take part in services that allow them both to have spiritual experiences and to practice their Hebrew skills. |
