The Caring Community Committee helps congregants strengthen their connection to Shir Tikvah and to each other. We work Yad B'Yad (Hebrew for “hand in hand”) to help meet the needs of our congregants and to offer ongoing support.
Services Provided to Shir Tikvah Community
| Shiva: Grieving families are supported by volunteers who provide support to our members who have lost a loved one. They assist at the Shiva by taking care of all duties and bring supplies that may be needed so the family can be with and comforted by the persons who come to express their condolences.
Inclusion: Members of the Koleil committee work to make Shir Tikvah welcoming, accessible and comfortable to all people with disabilities. More information on accessibility is available here. Meals/Cards: Following a surgery, illness, or difficult time, congregants can request Caring Community volunteers to provide meals and send cards of caring. Visits: The Bikur Cholim volunteers visit members who reside in nursing homes or are homebound and would like some company. Rides: Volunteers provide congregants rides to services when needed.

Social Activities: Congregational social activities enrich our spiritual community life: Events are planned by the Kesher (Social) committee and include the Satellite Shabbat dinners in late fall, the Shabbat picnic in summer, the summer camping trip, "All Child Left Behind" dinners out (Empty Nesters), and more.
Chavurot: are smaller social groups built around a common interest: similar ages of children, a neighborhood, an area of Jewish study, or any other shared activity. There is a Chavurah coordinator who assists congregants in forming or joining social groups. More information about Chavurot is available here. If you would like assistance from the Caring Community You may contact the Shir Tikvah office, Rabbi Latz, or Rabbi Simon and a Caring Community congregant will follow up as appropriate. The needs and requests of congregants are always held in strict confidence. If you would like to get involved with the Caring Community Committee Becoming involved with the Caring Community Committee is an opportunity to provide practical and meaningful assistance and support to members of our congregation, and is a wonderful way to connect with other members of our holy community. The committee meets a few times per year but we welcome any assistance with meals, rides, visits, etc. as your schedule permits. You can become involved at whatever level of commitment is right for you. For more information about volunteering with one of the Caring Community groups, please contact one of the co-chairs below. We appreciate your participation in making Shir Tikvah a welcoming community. Caring Community Committee Chair: Chris Bargeron. |
