Muslims and Jews have a very troubled history in many parts of the world.
Our congregationwide program, Ani v'Atah ("You and I")
attempts to create a
positive connection between Muslims and Jews through three bridges: education,
direct outreach, and advocacy.
Through a series of speaker and film events
we've learned about
Islam, refugees, and our local Somali community.
In partnership with the
Minnesota Council of Churches, local civic organizations, and
representatives from the Christian community, we are assisting in the
resettlement of a Somali refugee family. And through collaboration with
Heifer International, we are helping to develop economic sustainability
and empowerment for women and children in some of the world's poorest and
most troubled regions.
Our committee organizes educational programs at the
synagogue; provides support to a refugee family through transportation,
access to community resources, job support, and cultural awareness; and
raises funds to help combat civil unrest in Africa stemming from scarce
economic resources.
